AVSeminars was conceived by Bruce Micek, CEO and President of The ALPHAVICTOR® Companies, Inc., the founder of the innovative, internet-based AVLogbook®*, specifically designed for CFIs and their students.

In the process of developing the company's TCO (Training Course Outline) it became apparent that a high quality Flight Instructor Refresher Course presented by energetic and knowledgable instructors would have a significant impact on safety, thereby encouraging the continuing growth and enjoyment of general aviation.

With major help from George Shanks, retired American Airlines captain and longtime aviation educator, AVSeminars presented its first TCO to the FAA in Washington D.C. on March 24, 2009. On April 17, 2009, AVSeminars was given 24 month authorization to conduct "live" FIRCs throughout the country.

On November 4, 2009, Micek was designated an Aviation Certification Representative (ACR) by the FAA in Orlando to provide Temporary Airman's Certificates to AVSeminars graduates.

In December of 2009, AVSeminars began experimenting with Webinar technology as a means of lowering the overall cost for CFIs attending FIRCs while continuing to maintain the "live" interplay with other instructors and the FIRC presenter.

With grateful thanks to the FAA's Greg French, AVSeminars was given one-time approval for a Webinar FIRC to occur on April 10 and 11, 2010. This 16 hour Webinar proved to be so successful that the FAA created fulltime authorization for AVSeminars to continue in this new direction while maintaining a traditional path of "live" seminars throughout the country.

In April, 2011, AVSeminars requested and was approved for two, new ground-breaking authorizations:

1. To conduct "Progressive" webinar FIRCs. For the first time, CFIs are able to participate in "live", 2 hour webinar sessions that meet with their schedules. Modules 1 through 8 are conducted in two week pairings so that a CFI may take individual modules in any given month and may complete the renewal process over a six month period.

2. To conduct "Mega-FIRCs". "Live" FIRCs conducted at a large venue, then broadcast world-wide to other locations via CCTV techniques. Each of these auxilliary locations provide cameras and microphones for attendees to interact with the presenters. Proctors administer tests and provide graduation certificates and FAA documents at the conclusion of the two day program.

* AVLogbook® was sold to Anywhere Map so that fulltime attention could be paid to AVSeminars.

For most of his working years, Micek lived a dual career: broadcasting and aviation.

Micek's first exposure to aviation was as a lineman for George Priester at PalWaukee Airport near Chicago (now known as Chicago Executive) 'propping' George's fleet of J-3 Cubs.
He later worked in the "radio shop" as a technician when Micek earned his FCC Commercial licenses. It was here during his high school years that he learned to fly. At this time that he also became an announcer/engineer for a Chicago-area FM radio station where he divided his time among the airport, the radio station and school (it was school that suffered).

After two years of college in Kentucky, Micek returned to fulltime broadcasting. Through the years, he was involved in everything from announcing through owning numerous radio stations in four states and television news and public affairs director in Tampa, while continuing his flight training.

Finally...in 1983 he took the plunge into aviation in capacities from aircraft sales to flight instructor and charter pilot. In 1986 he formed "Avian...the Pilot's Airline" a national aircraft rental company offering new Piper Archers and Warriors. Despite its successes, shareholders dismantled the Company three years after its inception.

He returned to broadcasting to build several radio stations, two national radio networks and to operate a business brokerage. Following the sale of these businesses, Micek re-entered aviation as a ground / simulator instructor and FAA examiner in the Citation X and Citation Ultra/Bravo for both FlightSafety International and CAE SimuFlite. During this time Micek began developing his online pilot logbook, AVLogbook® and AVSeminars under the umbrella of The ALPHAVICTOR® Companies that is owned by Bruce and his wife, Betsy, who was an announcer at his Tampa area radio station.
